A Holy Thursday howdy,
.
Here’s the first, more detailed update of how we’ve been spending our time, both during the enforced lay off and since.
.
We had to lay down our gloves for a while. It was a difficult time. We were prohibited from doing any work on the property. But you might, if you were fond of obvious metaphor, say it welded us together.
But Joel's workshop was still humming, so we had the steel for our trusses
and Peter, the finest welder, converge there so we could grind
and cut
and consult and explain
and measure
and lay out
and shape a template with our engineer
with precise angles
and beautiful interior bracing, all exactly 11.46 meters (37.59 ft) long.
These U-bolts will be placed in the ring beam form and then concreted in place so the trusses can be welded to them, forever.
Peter and Samuel will deliver these quadruplets and then their smaller triplet siblings for the other side of the roof.
.
.
The trusses remind me of the leaded framework in stained glass windows, and that reminds me of St. Gretrude’s, the church I grew up in, and that reminds me that today we can mirror, dimly, the One who taught us, and grab a towel and a wash basin and get to it.
.
From all of our feet to all of yours, with love,
.
David and Brit and Chris and Debi
